Paying off debt can seem overwhelming, but IT DOESN’T HAVE TO BE! “Little by Little” you can tackle your debt without the overwhelming feeling of hopelessness.
The first step is to make a list of what you owe. This can feel overwhelming in itself, but I promise once you have everything listed and have a clear view of what you really owe it can make a big difference in your debt elimination.

Creating a lost is really helpful. I’ve created one for myself but it’s so hard to list out my husbands debts. Something always ends up missing from the list.
I think that sitting down together and discussing your debts to ensure that you both are on the same page is a really big next step, EJ. It’s tough to manage family finances when it is only one of you doing all the work. Try setting up a time you both can sit down and openly discuss your debts and get a clear view of where you each are at. It is refreshing to work together and is helpful when working toward managing your financial future.
Hi Heather! I am a fellow list maker, and I can attest to how beautifully making a list of debts makes the amount of debt seem more manageable. It is absolutely the first step in addressing your debt, but I feel like it is a step that many overlook. Thank you for reminding all of us that there is hope, and that we have to take it one step at a time – starting with the list. Your downloadable list includes all of the important information and helps to keep it organized!
Hi Tina! Thank you for stopping by. I appreciate your kind reply. It is one of the most important and most overlooked first steps. I love lists, and I love having a simple way to keep things organized. Glad to meet a fellow list maker.
Definitely the first step into recovery is seeing what you have. Great tip!
Thank you Dawn! The first step isn’t always the easiest, but certainly the most important.
I definitely agree. making a list is where you should start! And then check things off as you go.
Yes, Vaishali! It feels good when you can check things off too 😉
